Introduction to Black and White Photography
June 7th - July 12th 2010 Monday evenings 6-9pm. 6 weeks
$225 for six weeks, includes usage of darkroom for duration of class. Only chemical charges apply. Pay with PayPal below.

Objective: students will learn the basics of exposure, film development, black and white printing and print presentation.
Location: Photo Source 6346 Elvas Ave. Sacramento, CA 95819
Materials: a camera with manual options; black and white film (Ilford HP, please); black and white paper (RC, not Fiber); plastic negative sleeves (ex: Print File). All materials will be discussed during the first class and can be purchased that night at PhotoSource.
Syllabus June 7: Exposure: f-stops, shutter speeds, depth of field, and metering.
June 14: Film Development. Bring one or two exposed rolls to class.
June 21: Make Contact Sheets. Learn the basics for creating a black and white print. Bring negatives and B&W paper.
June 28: Print. Making enlargements: dodging, burning, cropping, and contrast control. Bring negatives and B&W paper.
July 5: Print. More practice. Bring negatives and B&W paper.
July 12: Mounting and Presentation: trimming, centering, and the dry press. Bring finished prints and two sheets of 14x18 rag board.
